Shopping in Salzburg
Getreidegasse
Alongside Linzergasse, the famous Getreidegasse runs through the heart of Salzburg. It is its unique charm that makes a visit so unforgettable. The picturesque atmosphere of this historic shopping street is shaped by the impressive architecture of its old passage houses, which once offered a shortcut to the water – the Salzach river. Typical features are the windows, which get smaller from the first floor upwards, and the magnificent doorways, such as the one at Mozart’s Birthplace at Getreidegasse 9. Other sights worth seeing include the Schatzhaus with its Schatzdurchhaus passage and the Baron Lassberg House with its two arcaded courtyards. And beyond all these sights, the beautiful wrought-iron guild signs are a reminder of times gone by.
But the present has also found its place in Getreidegasse.
Countless small shops invite you to browse, with jewellery, antiques, delicatessen, perfumeries and much more in abundance. Salzburg’s most exclusive stores are here too: Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Swarovski and many others offer great shopping. This is also where you can buy the Original Salzburger Mozartkugeln.
As you stroll, you can admire the idyllic inner courtyards found almost everywhere along Getreidegasse. In one of the many cafés and restaurants, visitors can take a break from shopping and enjoy the view of what may well be Salzburg’s most beautiful street. In the evening, small bars are the perfect place to unwind after a memorable shopping trip.
From our hotel, you are just a stone’s throw from experiencing this wonderful interplay of past and present, shopping and culture for yourself. Getreidegasse is only a few minutes from our hotel by car or taxi and can also be reached quickly by bus.
